School's Out

I made it all the way through college. My goal was to earn a bachelor's degree in the beginning. That was when I didn't know that I wanted to be a teacher. Now I'm a teacher. In just two days we will walk our final steps as students of education. I hope everybody remembers to bring their umbrellas.

Winter term has ended

Yesterday was my last day at EPMS. I am really going to miss the little 7th grade angels I had the opportunity to teach. Saying goodbye made me realize how much I had actually learned about these kids. My supervising teacher gave me the floor one last time as I said my goodbyes and passed around a journal so the students could write messages to me. The messages they left made me cry. From these goodbye messages, I was able to see that my presence had an impact on these students. One young lady wrote, "Mrs. Beck, I could tell you were nervous sometimes, but you did a very good job, and we always had fun stuff to do. Thank you and we will miss you." Many of the students said they wished I could stay, but for the most part, they assured me that I would be a really good teacher someday. I am very grateful to my supervising teacher and her students for sharing their classroom and their learning time with me.

It's not just the kids I'll miss either. I met some amazing adults at this school too. The office staff, Mr. J. the principal, the cool Mrs. M in the library, Carrie in the kitchen, Mr. P, the amazing custodian, Mrs. C. the awesome fill-in teacher for Mrs. D. in the resource room and so many more. I am impressed with the level of care the staff in this school afford to their students. The unstable economy has made the world a scary place for many kids today, but in this school, I believe the students can feel how much the adults care about them, which makes this one corner of their lives just a little less scary.
